Tetouan is about an hour from Tangier. Its medina, a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1997, was largely rebuilt by Andalusian refugees at the end of the 15th century and remains one of the most authentic in Morocco.
Below the medina, the Ensanche built during the Spanish protectorate lines its white facades around Place Hassan II and the royal palace. The school of arts and crafts lets you watch artisans at work (zellige, wood, embroidery).
Easy to combine with the Mediterranean coast (Martil, M’diq) or to extend to Chefchaouen.

Tetouan or Chefchaouen?
Tetouan is closer and less touristy, ideal for architecture and crafts. Chefchaouen is more spectacular but busier. Both fit in one long day.
