Chefchaouen is about 2.5 hours’ drive from Tangier, in the Rif mountains. Its blue-washed medina is best explored on foot, between Outa el-Hammam square, the kasbah and the Ras el-Ma spring.
A private car lets you leave early, before the groups arrive, and stop along the way. Nature lovers can add the Akchour waterfalls, about thirty minutes from Chefchaouen.
Also possible one way: sleep in Chefchaouen and continue to Fez.
